A Very Confident James Durbin Says Goodbye to American Idol ~ The Curtain Call Interview

After James Durbin's shocking elimination at the American Idol Season 10 Top 4 Results Show, James gave his final 'Curtain Call' interview with Idol.

James says he "can't believe he even made it this far" in the competition. "Right now, I'm just feeling so thankful to my family, to my friends, and most importantly to my fans. I know I have some seriously hardcore fans out there, and I know that they're rioting right now. But I want them to know, it's okay. I'm okay. This is only the beginning," says James, adding, "To know what I've accomplished, and know that everything I've done on this show, that no one else has ever done. No one's pushed that bar as far as I've pushed it. I'm just really happy that I was able to bring light and give voice to a whole 'nother genre of music. Everything that I performed was my ideas. Everything. Down to what I wanted on the stage. I'm not at all disappointed in myself because I gave everything that I have, every single day, every week, in every single performance."

"I have the best fans in the world!"

Haley Reinhart Rocks “You Oughta Know” on the American Idol Top 3 Showdown

Haley Reinhart, American Idol Season 10's most versatile performer, rocks out to the Alternative Rock girl-angst anthem “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette. In just one season, Haley has sung Country, Blues, 60's Rock n Roll, Soul, R&B, and now a bit of Indy/Alternative Rock. Haley's nailed songs by everyone from Patsy Kline, to Led Zeppelin, Adele, Sarah Vaughan, Elton John, Carole King, Janis Joplin and Lady Gaga, among others.

Even though Haley can sing anything, the judges made a horrible song choice for her. Not only did Haley need to change the x-rated lyrics for the PG-13 American Idol crowd, but "You Oughta Know" is not a singer's song. The rat-a-tat verses and choppy chorus in no way showcases Haley's huge vocals...nor would it showcase any singer's. The Top 3 is the time for the contestants to 'have a moment.' No singer could have a moment with this song, with it's awkward verses. Also, when "You Oughta Know" was released, people either loved or hated. Did the judges choose this to make Haley look and sound bad? After all the religious songs by other contestants, Haley would be the one to get the blame for singing an 'evil' song, not the judges who choose it. (The judges also screwed Crystal Bowersox last year with her Top 3 song. They choose "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney and Wings, forcing her to sing "Maybe I'm a Man" over and over, rather than change the lyrics to something even more awkward!)

But Haley loves a challenge, and she gave it her all, laying it all out in the chorus with a blast of grasp and growl ~ totally nailing it. Randy Jackson, who has been criticizing Haley for weeks, actually praised, "Those were some amazing choruses by you. I love seeing you rock out like that, in a soulful way. HALEY IS IN IT TO WIN IT!" Steven Tyler raved, "Amazing. That was so perfect. You so nailed the choruses. It was incredible. Beautiful." JLo added, "It was a really good job. The choruses, nobody can match you there, how high you can go, and how much power you can put behind your gowl. The stronger parts were the choruses."

America Idol Winner Scotty McCreery Wants to Record Duets with Lauren Alaina

Scotty McCreery Wants to Record Duets With Lauren Alaina - Taste of Country
By: Amy Sciarretto

While many wonder “Are they or aren’t they?” regarding the romantic relationship status of Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina‘s personal relationship, it’s clear that the American Idol semi-finalists have a high professional regard for one another. McCreery has said he would love to have Alaina duet with him on his debut album.

“I said, look, we’ve been together since day one, and we’re still together,” McCreery told USA Today immediately after being declared the victor. “We met the first day in Hollywood, we’ve been good friends through it all, we’ve been classmates. I just said this ain’t the end and we’re gonna keep on working. We sound good together. It’d be nice to get some duets.” The pair has experience singing together, as they teamed up twice during their season.

McCreery also threw a shout out to the loyal, dedicated fans who followed and supported him on his journey. “Country Music fans are great,” he said. “They’re loyal. I’ve got to thank them because they’re the reason I’m still here.”

Congrats again, Scotty! We are looking forward to seeing what you and Lauren Alaina have in store!

James Durbin Featuring Judas Priest at the American Idol Finale!

James-Durbin-Judas-Priest-American-Idol-10-Finale-PHOTOS.jpg (JPEG Image, 398x265 pixels)

James Durbin stole the show, again, at the America Idol Season 10 Finale. There had been much speculation over who James would perform with. Many hoped it would be Aerosmith, since Steve Tyler had made a promise at the beginning of the show that he'd sing with James, if James made it to the finals. James came close, finishing in fourth place, and Tyler said Aerosmith would be there. But, according to the rest of the band, there were "scheduling conflicts." James got the next best thing...singing with another of his Idols, Rob Halford of Judas Priest! In a stunning performance of pyrotechnic delights, James proved he should have been in the Top 2, singing Judas Priests' 1980's hits "Livin' After Midnight" and "Breakin the Law" from the album British Steel.

On a side note: James, next time you feel like raiding the Village People's closet, please don't!!

Season 10's Feisty Haley Reinhart Has "A Lot of Faith" in a Post-American Idol Career of Sultry Soul and Rock

"I'm really, really lucky to have some strong women that have powerful voices that are coming back into the scene, Haley Reinhart tells MTV News.
By Gil Kaufman, MTV

Haley Reinhart had a memorably bumpy ride on the just-completed 10th season of American Idol. She fell down during her final performance night, got dinged by judge Randy Jackson on a number of occasions in an otherwise-sunshiny season of high praise for most of the top finishers and almost had to take the stage at the last minute as a finale sub when eventual runner-up Lauren Alaina suffered a vocal-cord malady on the last performance night.

So is Haley bitter about her seesaw season or worried that her third-place finish means her sultry blues sound didn't click with America?

"I'm really, really lucky to have some strong women that have powerful voices that are coming back into the scene ... that's very inspiring, because that's what I've wanted to do for a while," she told MTV News on Tuesday, May 31st, mentioning such icons as Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae, Grammy-winning jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding, Duffy and Janelle MonĂ¡e as her inspirations.

"All these chicks have a really, really cool, unique sound, and I'm really thankful that this is coming about, because it's the right time for me right now. It's happening, and I have so much throwback that's come along with me, and it seems like it might be a stretch to get there, but especially now with this new wave coming through, with this raw, refreshing good musicality being provided, I have really good feelings and a lot of faith."

Haley Reinhart is already looking ahead to the time after this summer's American Idols LIVE! Tour, when she hopes to put out some of the funky, R&B/Soul style of music she likes to write. "I never wrote anything with the real Rock there, so I would like to touch on that," she said, promising that her debut album will be a mix of sultry Soul and Rock.

Lauren Alaina, American Idol Runner-Up, Says: 'I Knew Scotty Was Gonna Win'

'American Idol' Runner-Up Lauren Alaina: 'I Knew Scotty Was Gonna Win' | Billboard.com

Lauren Alaina may have lost American Idol Season 10 -- but she still feels like a winner after singing with Carrie Underwood.

"Carrie has been my Idol since she was on this show in Scotty's position," Alaina told reporters in the press room after Wednesday night's show in which Scotty McCreery was crowned the new Idol; a record 122 million votes were cast for the finale. Underwood won Season 5 of the Fox Television hit.

Performing with Underwood "was a dream come true," continued Alaina. "I love Carrie -- she is amazing, I got to sing with her that makes me feel pretty awesome."

What did Underwood whisper in her ear? "She said, 'Wow, that was incredible. We should take that on the road,'" Alaina said.

Now that the show is over -- but the tour has not yet begun -- what are Alaina's plans? "I get to sleep and eat unhealthy food," said the Country singer, who dropped 20 pounds while competing. On second thought: "Actually, I'm not gonna do that."

Competing was an eye-opening experience with Alaina. "Every day I learned something new about myself. I learned that I cry a lot. I didn't cry tonight because I was happy," she said. "How could I be unhappy with second place? There's a million people out there that would love to be in my position and I'm blessed."

"Life is a journey and you have to go with each step, stumbles only makes you stronger. I feel like things happen for a reason and God has a plan for me and his plan was to give me second place," she added. (Not hurting the situation either? She'll get a Ford - as the company is a sponsor - as a prize as well. Her choice? "Maybe a GT.")

She had nothing bad to say about the judges, especially Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. "Steven was really nice to me," Alaina told reporters. Alaina also said earlier that night that she was sure McCreery would take the top prize.

"I knew Scotty was gonna win," she said. "I knew in my heart and I accepted it. ... I couldn't pick a more perfect person to get second place to. I know that's cheesy, but he's my best friend."

Sultry, Sassy Haley Reinhart Plots 'Sultry, Bluesy Rock' Future After American Idol

Haley Reinhart is gone from the American Idol world ~ but won't be forgotten any time, soon. "Everybody is such a great big family...and I knew I'd miss them. But then again, I'm gonna see them again today," the ousted singer from Wheeling, Ill., told Idol's weekly conference call with reporters as she, in fact, rode to rehearsals for Idol's finale episodes next week. Being No. 3, after all, means not having to stay on ice too long before you're part of the show again, so Reinhart is, not surprisingly, "at peace with everything" as she contemplates her Idol past and where she'll head from here.

You'd been in the bottom three four times before Thursday. Did you feel it was only a matter of time before you'd be eliminated or were you starting to feel invincible?

Reinhart: I kind of go with option B a little bit more. I don't like to sell myself short, and I believe that taking that all in stride and realizing I've been in (the bottom three) so many times and I'm still around, there's something going on. I've got to step up my game even more week to week, and it pulled off.

Is it fair to say you were angry when the decision was announced?

Not at all, not angry. Of course everybody's gonna be surprised with the verdict, but all in all I accepted it very quickly and took it in, took it all with a grain of salt and said, "Hey, everything happens for a reason. This is a good thing." This happened for a reason, and it only means that I'm going to start my career as a solo artist even sooner.

What did it mean to perform with your parents this week?

My parents have basically just taught me the rules of the stage and everything since I was eight...It's always been a dream of mine to get somewhere, and just as important to me, it would be an honor to have my mom, my dad, to have them with me up there. So I got to go back home and play with their band, and having (her father) on stage and actually getting to give him a couple licks and show America what he could do, that was just so special to me.

In hindsight, would you have done anything differently on Wednesday?

I don't live in regret, really. There's of course gonna be some things, and I do nitpick. I'm a Virgo. Other than that, I don't regret anything. Each step along this way has gotten me to where I am today. Each song and the genres I got to show off in the early stages of everything, I wouldn't trade that for the world. I got to show versatility, and I'm proud to do that.

You covered a lot of territory on the show. What would you like your album to be like?

I have a lot of ideas, even from now into the future, of what I'd like to do. I would love to do an album that's like sultry, Bluesy Rock. I absolutely love Jazz, so if I can slip that in there somewhere or even in the future get more into Jazz...(But) I definitely am loving the sultry, Bluesy Rock feel.

If you could work with some of the folks you met and worked with on the show, who would it be?

Well, Steven Tyler, y'know. I love Classic Rock. Just growing up with Rock 'n' Roll in my life, if I could so something with him that would be fantastic. Otherwise there's plenty of people out there I would love to collaborate with. I adore Corinne Bailey Rae. I adore Esperanza Spalding, Janelle Monae -- those three women, I believe, are very unique and powerful in their own ways. I hope to do something just as cool.

Is there one moment you'd most want people to remember from the show?

I picked Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets" last night because I felt that was a big turning point. I had good performances leading up to that; starting with "You Really Got Me," they started seeing, "Oh, this is what you want to do." With "Bennie and the Jets," I had a whole vision of how I wanted it to pan out. It was my arrangement, how I wanted it to start off jazzy and slower, then rock out by the end of it. I planned that whole thing on the piano and it worked out very well, so I guess I would say that performance.

Did the rumors about you and Casey Abrams dating help or hurt in any way? Was it a distraction?

Y'know, not really, and we didn't really give into them at all. We never said yes or no. We laughed about it. That's probably the better thing to do. Obviously we have a really, really strong relationship - maybe not dating, but just the musicality between us and everything else has been just wonderful. We got so many questions about it. Either way, it's not going to hurt anybody. We had a lot of fun with it. We played the game. It was fun.

What qualities about Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery make them the American Idol?

As far as the viewers of the show, this is perfect for them. We have a very young audience out there, and they're both so darn cute and they've got that Country calling. This is a Country year, and I'm excited to see what happens. I definitely see young America being very captivated by these two.

So go out on a limb and predict who's going to win.

Naaaaah, you know I can't do that. It's a close one, and it's so close 'cause they're in such a close lane together as far as Country guys. So it's anybody's game, man.
