American Idol Season 10's Southern Belle Lauren Alaina belts out Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". For the Top 9 Show, Idol contestants took on songs from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 1987, Aretha Franklin became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is a 1967 single released by soul singer Aretha Franklin on the Atlantic label. The record was a big hit for Franklin, reaching number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, and became a standard song for her. It has been covered many times, most famously by Celine Dion and Mary J. Blige.

For Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Week, the Top 9 American Idol contestants had the help of an all-star cast of celebrity mentors, including of the Black Eyed Peas, who helped the contestants with their song choices and gave production/arrangement advice along with Jimmy Iovine, and No Doubt's Gwen Stefani who acted as stylist with clothes from her L.A.M.B. line. (FAIL on the wardrobe. Lauren should have been wearing something like the gorgeous black gown from last week or the zebra-striped gown. You do not sing "A Natural Woman" dressed like a tween in shorts and a Faux-hawk!)

"Lauren's taking one of the greatest marriages ever, which is R&B and Country. When you put that together, there's no other word but 'Magic'," said producer Jimmy Iovine. Lauren strolled out to the stage looking beautiful and very confident. She didn't change up the song too much; it's been done so many times, there's not much to change. It did sound great with Lauren's slight Country twang, growls and rasp. Lauren had a huge smile on her face. She knew she nailed it! Steven Tyler raved, "You know I love you. Tonight you are a natural born woman. You have so brought it up. And I love your voice. I think you're great." Jennifer Lopez, always a Lauren fan, said, "That was very nice. She’s amazing! Yes!" Randy Jackson said, "I haven't heard the other songs of the night, but you probably picked one of the most difficult ones, most highly decorated by the QUEEN of Soul herself. I wasn't jumping up and down, I think you did a good job on it. There were some people on this stage in past seasons that really laid it out. But you took a very difficult song and you did a good job. So big props to you on that."

  1. You are the greatest singer to come along since Leann Rimes...

  2. I wish they'd do a gospel song night. The christian music industry have some great performers and just wondering how well they'd do singing that genre?
