American Idol's NAIMA Adedapo Sings "What's Love Got to Do with It?"

American Idol Season 10's most unique singer Naima Adedapo sings Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do with It?" for the Top 12 show. Idol contestants choose songs from their birth year, and Naima picked Tina Turner's 1984 hit.

Naima descends the stairs in another cool, urban look. She took this huge hit from 1984 and made it 2011 by mixing up the vocals, and took over the stage like a pro. The judges had mixed reactions to Naima's performance. Aerosmith's Steven Tyler praised, "Naima! You opened up a can of whoop-de-do on us tonight! You got a sorcerers grasp of melody girl. I just loved it." Jennifer Lopez said, “Hey Baby. So, you bring your specific flavor to everything. I love that. Last week, I gave you a pass on your pitchiness. Now I’m seeing that you are consistently pitchy. I need you to concentrate on that, to work on that. Your flavor's crazy...you need to bring that all together.” Randy Jackson agreed with Jennifer, "You’re still always under the pitch. You perform, and you got the energy, you look hot. The vocals were all over the place."

"What's Love Got to Do with It" is the second single (after "Let's Stay Together") released from Tina Turner's fifth solo album Private Dancer. In Europe it was the third single following Turner's cover of The Beatles' "Help!". "What's Love Got to Do with It" became Turner's most successful single.

Tina Turner had previously released two solo albums while still with her husband and musical partner Ike Turner. She split from him in 1976 and divorced in 1978. Following the divorce, she released two more solo albums, both of which failed on the charts. However, "What's Love Got to Do with It", from her fifth solo album, reached the top five in both the US and UK. The song ranked #309 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". It also ranked #38 on "Songs of the Century". It was the 17th best-selling single of 1984 in the UK. The song was originally recorded by UK pop group Bucks Fizz, but unreleased until 2000. In 1993, the song's name was used as the title for What's Love Got to Do With It, a biographical film about Tina Turner's life.
